Constituent Caseworker
New York State Senator-Elect Iwen Chu has several immediate openings for Constituent Caseworkers. Strong interpersonal/communications skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and capacity to work on/undertake multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously are a must. The selected candidate will work closely with senior members of the Senator’s district office, as well as senior staff of other elected officials and organizations. Good judgment, strong customer service skills, a passion for public service and availability to work some evenings and weekends are required.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Handling constituent cases and following up with appropriate agencies to see cases through.
Monitor and track constituent correspondence and related paperwork in an online database. Log all requests and maintain up-to-date files on all cases.
Act as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies for the Member and constituents;
Attend community meetings and events to provide information about and promote the Senator’s initiatives to address issues and concerns
Provide written and verbal updates to the Senator and her staff on community issues, major milestones, and concerns
Remain current on the Senator’s legislative and policy agenda and serve as a resource regarding those issues for the local community and colleagues
The ideal candidate will also be willing to take on ad hoc responsibilities and projects as they arise. Ability to communicate, read and write in multiple languages, especially Arabic, Chinese & Spanish, is highly desirable.
Salary
Starting salary is $35,000 and is commensurate with experience. The positions come with an excellent benefits package including health, dental, optical, and retirement benefits.

Act as gatekeeper to Senator’s time and availability
Manage Senator’s Senate email account
Briefing management - structuring, editing, maintaining staff deadlines for briefings and memos, assisting as needed
Identify and implement best operational practices (i.e. workflow, task management, meeting deadlines)
Constituent services/casework and support community liaisons in their casework
Maintain relationships with schedulers in other local elected offices to coordinate events and share calendar info (as approved by Chief of Staff)
Track/submit Senator’s expenditures
Attend virtual and in-person community meetings and events on behalf of the Senator and office
Provide additional, general support for Senator and Chief of Staff in whatever area is needed (i.e. lighten workloads, build new systems, etc)
Day-to-day planning/oversight of district office operations (including but not limited to office supplies, vendor relations, etc)
Other duties as assigned by the Senator and senior staff

Communications Director
The office of New York State Senator-Elect Iwen Chu is seeking an experienced Communications Director to fill the role immediately.
Responsibilities:
The Communications Director will be responsible for writing public statements, sending regular newsletters via email and print, and working with reporters and journalists. They will be in charge of monitoring and maintenance of the Member’s social media accounts, drafting and posting content for social media, producing graphics and videos.
The Director will keep constituents and New Yorkers informed of their rights, government services and urgent announcements via social media, email and earned media. They will also communicate office priorities and stances on city and state policies, key initiatives and anything of political importance in a timely manner.
As with everyone on staff, they will also be available to assist constituents with addressing a range of concerns including, but not limited to: small business, transportation, housing, health care, social service, education, environment and economic development issues. This person will act as a liaison and go to person between members of the community, city agencies and the Senator.
In addition, the role will play a high level role in crafting messaging and legislative priorities, responding to constituent needs, resolving pertinent local issues, and liaising with State and local agencies.
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to think critically, creatively, and quickly
Experience developing messaging and written materials to advance strategic goals
Think strategically, build towards a vision
Take initiative as the director
Existing relationships with New York State & City press corps a plus
Experience in constituent relations a plus
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to respectfully engage individuals from diverse backgrounds
