Iwen knows that NYC is extraordinary because of its diverse culture and neighborhoods. Immigrants keep our city and country running and are the backbone of every community. As a first-generation immigrant, Iwen understands the drive and desire behind the American Dream. 

Iwen has been a fighter for language inclusivity, and sponsored legislation requiring government agencies to translate their forms so that people of all backgrounds can access vital information without language being a barrier. She also cosponsored the new law that makes Asian Lunar New Year a school holiday, and cosponsored legislation to establish an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history and civic impact curriculum or instructions for school districts.
