Street Safety

Pedestrian fatalities are an epidemic on NYC streets, with last year being one of the deadliest years since Vision Zero began. Iwen knows that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to the problem of reckless driving, but rather a holistic approach that involves the community, experts and advocates to make our streets safe for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Her plan to make our streets safe for everyone includes:

• Mandating pedestrian and cyclist safety education in drivers education classes to make sure that these classes reflect the realities of our shared roadways.

• Working with community members to implement street redesign that works for everyone, and makes our streets safe for all. She knows that there are many high risk corridors throughout the district that can be best improved by bringing everyone to the table to find a solution that works for all.
