Iwen Chu Submitted Over 5,400 signatures, five times the required number

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Democratic State Senate candidate Iwen Chu announced on April 6 that she has collected and submitted 5,402 signatures — about five times the number of signatures required to get on the ballot.

Despite running unopposed in the new state Senate District 27, Iwen mobilized to meet with people from every corner of the district and introduce herself, collecting signatures along the way.

She petitioned with Assembly Member Robert Carroll at the Ft Hamilton Parkway subway station in Windsor Terrace, the United Progressive Democratic Club in Bensonhurst, and Stars and Stripes in Dyker Heights. She also worked closely with District Leaders, went door-to-door, visited parks, streets, associations, local merchants, laundromats, supermarkets and subways, to gain support and signatures.

“Thanks to my dozens of volunteers who walked with me, knocked on doors with me and supported me, we were able to collect over 5,400 signatures from every corner of SD27,” said Chu. “We collected signatures from going door-to-door, and from parks, streets, associations, local merchants, laundromats, supermarkets and subways."

Iwen is running to be the first Asian-American state elected official in Brooklyn and the first female Asian State Senator in New York.
